America Reads is a literacy program in six local schools (Solway, Horace May, Central, JW Smith, Lincoln, Northern, and Kelliher Elementary schools),
Literacy is the key to all learning. Without it, the promise of America is a closed book. But we can change all that. With an army of reading tutuors, we can make sure every child can read by the 3rd grade.
Put your life experiences to work for your community. We have developed Readers Theater, Math tutoring, Media Center support programs, and more. If you have a special interest area and you enjoy working with children we will find a place for your skills to benefit others.
Training/Experience: Training is provided by the area America Reads coordinator.
Restrictions/Limitations: Volunteers must complete a background study.
